The Story from Srebrenica
In the summer of 1995, my world was shattered. I am a mother who fills her days with the quiet grief of a lost son. It began when Serbian soldiers forced my 13-year-old son, along with other boys and men, onto a bus.
As he whispered reassuring words to my daughter, my son was taken away, far from our home. Years passed with no knowledge of what had happened to him.
After many years, modern times brought a painful discovery. My daughter came across a video on the internet that once again shattered our world. She had found her brother, but not in the way we had hoped.
My son, along with other boys and men, was systematically executed. He was one of over 8,000 Muslim boys and men who were murdered within 11 days by Serbian soldiers, out of sight of the 400 Dutch UN soldiers, Dutchbatters, who were supposed to protect Srebrenica.
