The story from Višegrad

In 1992, while the Bosnian army was fighting for the freedom of our beloved country, a personal tragedy unfolded that hurts my soul to this day. I am a man who fought in the Bosnian army against injustice against my fellow Muslims. My world collapsed when I discovered that my two daughters, aged 13 and 17, had been taken to the Hotel Vilina Vlas in Visegrad. The hotel, once a popular destination for travellers, was used for terrible reasons during the war. By the paramilitary group ‘Bijeli Orlovi’, it was used as an abuse camp for young girls and women. The hotel transformed into a place where innocent lives were destroyed. Today, Hotel Vilina Vlas remains unchanged. The truth lies buried, hidden from tourists and visitors who unsuspectingly stay in the same rooms, where not even the furniture has been changed. The leader of ‘Bijeli Orlovi’, Milan Lukic, received a life sentence in 2009. Sexual abuse was not on his conviction. Hundreds of women who survived the hotel never got their justice. The bodies of my daughters were never recovered.
